Connecting Theory and Practice in Teacher Education: Issues and Challenges

The study aims to explore the course teachers’ perceptions towards teaching practice. To meet research objectives, interpretive paradigm was used adopting phenomenological design based on qualitative research. teachers of practice (Course No. Ed. 440) were its informants. They selected purposively from Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara, which is largest constituent campus Tribhuvan University. In-depth interviews taken with six different subjects generate information. Though core teacher education program, it has some constrains. designed provide hands-on experience prospective through rigorous under close supervision teachers, but output not found as expected and program also free criticism. revealed that achieving objectives prescribed by curriculum. It just becoming training in reality. Lack motivation dedication teachers; similarly, devotion integrity supervisors, cooperation cooperating schools, university’s policies, job opportunities home country, unfair flexible evaluation practices explored main issues challenges for effective implementation output. findings will be useful policymakers, professionals, other stakeholders reform present phenomenon.
